Lots of updates...lots of news.
So back in January, David Berkeley did a string of shows opening for the phenomenal Ray Lamontagne, a couple of which I was lucky enough to join him on. One of those dates was in Nashville, and on our way back to home we got off I-40 and stopped in at the national headquarters of CMT -- yep, Country Music Television -- to tape performances of four of David's songs. (We had been invited.) Actually, to videotape the performances for a portion of CMT's website called "New Voices, No Cover."
[talk about pressure: I had to play two solos for the audience of Country Music Television. Country music, unlike most other pop/rock/singer-songwriter music, still has guitar solos...and they're good. Some of the best musicians in the country reside in Davidson County, Tennessee and the surrounding area.]
Well, as of today, the performances are viewable on CMT's website. Go take a look and see if you can spot where David breaks a string.
I'm listening to what may be the final master of the bleedin bleedin's forthcoming record, Life Without Computers, as I type this. Thanks to the handiwork of Scott Elson up at Gateway, who mastered the album, and Dave Franz, who mixed it (and co-wrote the songs, and played drums on it, too, God bless him), it sounds fantastic. Release information forthcoming.
Blake's album, Til I Reach the Light, is only weeks away from being available to the general public. Initial reports from those in the know has been pretty favorable, to put it mildly.
Tim Williams' latest album, Tales of Digression, received the honor of being 17th on the list of albums added to the most college radio stations around the country a couple of weeks ago. Tim just returned from a triumphant tour in the UK, where every night he played to a packed house. Sounds like the Britons know their stuff.
More soon.
Blake Guthrie's first studio LP, Til I Reach the Light, is done. After a very long 2.5 weeks of mixing (apologies, by the way, to everyone I know for basically disappearing), the album was mastered by the very talented Alex Lowe on Friday, and will be shipped off for duplication on Monday. The official release date will be May 21.
Here's the first single from the album, Threads. Enjoy.
